Into the Forest

There is a notion that we have of need and want in this world, just to satisfy the appetite that we have for something that we may not even need, yet we think we want it because we think that it is going to better our life. Jean Hegland's quote is telling us that we take up so many things thinking that we need them, we take and take and take and in the end there will be no more. We take up the water, the food, the trees, etc. that this world is providing us with and in the end we are going to be left with nothing, and no wonder there are are wars, the air is polluted, the water is getting contaminated with oil because we "need" it for our cars, etc. Do we really need it? We confuse our want with need, and we don't realize it until it is too late. I think that this is true, we may or may not end up living in the forest, but we are confusing ourselves with wanting so many things that it will end up costing our lives, our planet, everything.

Against the Arizona Immigration Law

This new law that passed in Arizona, is just wrong! I don’t think that people must carry IDs at all times, when walking in the street. People that already have residency are the ones targeted just because they look “Mexican, immigrant, or Latino”. I am Mexican-American, I can understand the people that are not white but yet are legal here are feeling, the harassment that this new law has created. But what I cannot understand is why we are being the target? Why are the Mexicans being disliked? Why are we the only ones being targeted? There are Guatemalans’, Chinese, Argentineans’, etc. We are not the only ones here, but yet once they talk about immigrants they look at the Mexican race, that is discrimination, and racist. We are humans too! Are we going to have to end up wearing a brown star to show that we were born here, have our documents at all times to show that we are residents now, or wear a shirt that says “I am legal”? Are we going to go back with how the Germans were with the Jews, making them wear a yellow star at all times to show that they are Jews and separate them and discriminate them, is that where we are going again. Have we not learned anything from our history? I just think that this new law is going to create chaos. Not only will Arizona lose people, businesses, but other states are going to get overpopulated, like California. I think that this new law should be taken away, because not only is it racist, and discriminating people, it’s inhumane!!

Anti- bias rules

Everyone at public colleges should be forced to follow anti-bias rules, especially when the students form their own club. Take for instance this law suit, the Christian group sued the school because they want to set up their own rules, restrict membership to people because of their beliefs and the school did not want to give it to them. The school is paying for these clubs, and for them to exclude and discriminate gays, and those who don’t share its core beliefs, is just not right. I think that this is just unfair, and ridiculous for them to exclude and discriminate, these anti-bias rules are set up for a good reason, to not discriminate. All clubs and everyone should follow these anti-bias rules, because in the end the victim is not the Christian group, by not getting what they ask for, but the people that get discriminated for who they are.

Do we expect people to lie to us?

I think that we expect people to lie to us in order for us to not face reality. In order for us to not hear the truth, expecting other people to lie to us in order to not get our feelings hurt. We have to hide the truth with a lie, either we do the lying or the lying is being done to us. Everyone does it, if we were to live in a world where there would be no lies we would all be considered jerks, not caring for peoples feelings. We would be inhumane because we would not feel sympathy or compassion for the people we are saying the lies, the world would be chaotic, we would be distraught with such truth. But although we all want truth, and want our feelings being considered to we really want the truth or do we want to blind ourselves with lies?

Against supreme court's decision on corporations

I am against the decision that the supreme court made on corporations. I think that it is just unfair what they are doing, giving the free speech principle to them when they are not even people just because they have way more money than an individual. By allowing corporate money to influence or flood politics would corrupt democracy. By this all they are doing is making the speech of corporations greater than that of an individual. What this is also doing is creating or sort of reshaping the way elections were conducted, creating a country of democracy into a country of hypocrites. They should ban political spending on corporations.
